Cement Driveway Installation Company Serving Eagan, MN, and Minneapolis, MN

A home in Minneapolis, MN, with a new concrete driveway installation
Concrete driveways require little to no maintenance compared to other paving materials such as asphalt or gravel. Concrete is extremely versatile, strong and helps to increase your homes curb appeal and can also add value to your home should you ever decide to sell it.
At Able Concrete we’ve completed thousands of concrete jobs within the area and our staff has decades of experience pouring concrete driveways. Because of our vast experience in the local areas we’re extremely familiar with all local building codes and always ensure our driveway projects adhere to them. Because of the harsh winters we see so often in Minnesota and Wisconsin, we always recommend concrete driveways over asphalt.

Able Concrete Standards

  • 4 inch thick concrete slab

In our 20+ years of experience pouring concrete driveways in and around Minnesota and Wisconsin we’ve found that it’s extremely important to have a strict process that is used on every single project that we complete. Sticking to this process ensures that each of our jobs is completed with the same level of precision.

THOROUGH AND CAREFUL PROCESS FOR OUR CONCRETE DRIVEWAY PROJECTS:

1. Site Preparation:

To prepare the site for a new driveway, we remove and haul away the old driveway. Once all the debris has been removed, we erect temporary forms around the perimeter of the driveway to form the shape of your new driveway.

2. Base Preparation:

Next we install class 5 gravel as the base of the driveway and always make sure that it is compacted sufficiently with an even thickness. At this time we also ensure proper drainage work is done to help with rain and snow melt.

3. Steel Wire Reinforcement:

Once the gravel has been laid, we install a steel wire mesh base, which will help to reinforce the concrete. This base is cut to fit the dimensions of your driveway and is laid on the base. This layer of steel rebar will end up surrounded by concrete when the concrete is poured. After the reinforcement has been laid the site is ready for inspection.

4. Concrete Pouring:

Once the site has been inspected the process of concrete pouring can begin. This is done using a concrete mixer and the concrete is then poured directly into the forms. While the concrete is being poured it’s leveled off and bull floated. Surface joints are then cut to prevent random cracks from appearing in the concrete.

5. Concrete Finishing:

Next the finishing process can take place, which consists of brooming and floating the newly poured concrete surface. If other concrete treatments are to be applied, they are done during this step of the process. Once the finishing process is completed, the concrete is left to dry. Within 24 hours the concrete driveway should be ready for some light walking, but we suggest that it be left to cure for a minimum of 7 days before heavy objects like cars are to be driven on it.
